      DESCRIPTION

Prostate enlargement is one of the most common health issues men face after 40. By age 60, more than half of men have some degree of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — and the urinary symptoms that come with it affect sleep, comfort, and quality of life. ProstaVitality is formulated specifically for men who want proactive nutritional support for prostate and urinary health.

What's inside and why it matters:

      1. Saw Palmetto Extract (300mg): The most studied botanical for prostate health. Inhibits 5-alpha reductase, reducing conversion of testosterone to DHT — a primary driver of prostate tissue growth.
      2. Pygeum africanum Extract (200mg, std. 3% phytosterols): Studied specifically for urinary flow and comfort in men with BPH. Better evidence base for urinary symptoms than most prostate botanicals.
      3. Pumpkin Seed Extract (100mg): Rich in zinc and phytosterols. Studied for bladder and urinary tract support. Frequently combined with saw palmetto in clinical trials.
      4. Nettle Extract (50mg): Inhibits sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and has anti-inflammatory effects in prostate tissue. Works synergistically with saw palmetto.
      5. Lycopene (10mg): The carotenoid that gives tomatoes their red color. Accumulates in prostate tissue and has been studied for its antioxidant protection of prostate cells.
      6. Boron (10mg): Reduces SHBG and has been studied specifically for prostate tissue health in epidemiological research.

      Here's the Science

Saw palmetto has more clinical data than any other botanical for prostate health. A 2012 Cochrane review of 32 randomized trials found that saw palmetto improved urinary symptom scores and peak urinary flow in men with BPH. Notably, a large NIH-funded trial (STEP trial, 2006) found no benefit over placebo at standard doses — but this has been attributed to the extract quality and dose used. Higher doses (320mg+) and standardized extracts show more consistent results, which is why dose and standardization matter.

Pygeum africanum has a particularly strong evidence base for urinary symptoms. A 2002 Cochrane review of 18 randomized trials found that Pygeum supplementation produced significant improvements in urinary flow, nighttime urination frequency, and overall urinary symptom scores compared to placebo. The phytosterols in Pygeum are thought to reduce prostate inflammation and modulate androgen receptor sensitivity.

The saw palmetto and nettle combination has been studied directly. A 2005 randomized trial in the World Journal of Urology found that combined saw palmetto and nettle root extract produced improvements in urinary symptom scores comparable to finasteride (a prescription medication for BPH) after 24 weeks, with fewer side effects.

Lycopene accumulates preferentially in prostate tissue. A 2004 study in Experimental Biology and Medicine reviewed the evidence for lycopene and prostate health, finding consistent protective associations in both observational and interventional research. Men with higher lycopene intake had lower PSA levels in several studies, though this is an observational association and not a treatment claim.

Suggested use: Two capsules daily with 6-8 oz of water. Best taken with a meal for optimal absorption of fat-soluble compounds.
